Supported by Jacobs Foundation, Jacobs University and DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) the Yachay Initiative not only aims to support fifth graders from Vegesack, but also school children all around the world. Through project-based learning, the undergraduates teach youngsters to develop their leadership skills and to initiate positive change within their community. From March a group of Jacobs students works closely with children from Oberschule an der Lerchenstraße, a secondary school in Bremen-Vegesack. Recently our Zimbabwean students introduced friends and fellow students at Jacobs University to their country’s culture, music and traditions at Country Information Day (CID) Zimbabwe.

Researchers at Jacobs University have recently made important contributions to the field of two-dimensional materials, a prerequisite for nanoscale and flexible electronics. Frank Oliver Glöckner, Professor of Bioinformatics at Jacobs University, has been appointed as member of the German Council for Information Infrastructures (Rat für Informationsinfrastrukturen) which was established by the Joint Science Conference (Gemeinsame Wissenschaftskonferenz – GWK) for a pilot phase of four years.
